Behind the numbers

Three things the calculator assumes

1

Down payment ≈ one monthly payment. Collected at checkout and counted in the total. Pay-in-4 collects 25% instead.

2

Fixed rate, fixed schedule. Interest-bearing plans are simple-interest amortising loans — no compounding surprises, no deferred interest.

3

No fees in the math. There are none to add: no origination, application or prepayment fee. A $15 late fee applies only after 15 days late.

Payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−n)

P = amount financed · r = APR ÷ 12 · n = number of months. At 0% the formula collapses to P ÷ n. Results are rounded to the nearest dollar, which is why a table cell can differ by $1 from your statement.

Calculator FAQ

Reading the results

How is the monthly payment calculated?
Standard amortisation: payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)⁻ⁿ), where P is the amount financed, r the APR divided by 12, and n the number of months. At 0% APR it's simply the amount divided by the months.
What's the down payment?
Monthly plans usually collect about one monthly payment at checkout; Pay-in-4 collects 25%. It counts toward the total — it isn't an extra fee.
Which APR should I pick?
Choose 0% if your practice offers promotional plans and you expect to qualify. Otherwise 12.99% is a reasonable mid-range estimate; your actual rate (5.99%–35.99%) is set at approval.
Why doesn't the calculator show my real offer?
It can't see your credit profile or the practice's plan tier. The only way to see the real number is a one-minute soft-check application — it won't affect your score.
Does a longer term always cost more?
At any APR above 0%, yes: a lower payment over more months means more total interest. At 0% the total is the same whatever the term.
Can I pay more than the monthly amount?
Yes, any time, with no prepayment penalty — extra payments shorten the plan and, on interest-bearing plans, reduce the total interest.
