Start from your situation

Credit

My credit is limited or bruised

CherrySunbitScratchpay

All three are soft-check with broad approval; Cherry and Sunbit publish ~90%.

Amount

It's over $20,000

Cherry to $65,000 at surgery practices; PatientFi to $50,000.

Payment

I need the lowest monthly payment

Longer terms mean more total interest — run both in the calculator.

Vet

It's an emergency vet bill

Scratchpay for the smallest cash tonight; Cherry for surgery-sized bills and longer terms.

Zero risk of surprise

I want 0% that can't turn into 33%

CherryAffirmScratchpay

Avoid deferred-interest promos unless you're certain of paying to the dollar on time.

Reusable

I want one line I can reuse

Cards reuse; plans end. Cherry approvals can be reused within 30 days at one practice.

Glossary

Four terms that decide what you pay

Soft vs hard credit check

A soft inquiry is invisible to other lenders and doesn't move your score. A hard inquiry stays on your report for two years and can lower your score by a few points. More →

True 0% vs deferred interest

True 0% means no interest, full stop. Deferred interest means interest is calculated from day one and only waived if you pay in full on time — miss by a dollar and all of it is charged.

Installment plan vs revolving card

A plan has a fixed amount, payment and end date. A card has a limit, minimum payments and no fixed end — convenient for reuse, easier to carry a balance on.

Down payment

Most installment lenders collect a first payment at checkout: Cherry about one monthly payment (25% on Pay-in-4), Scratchpay $15, Sunbit and PatientFi varying amounts. Cards collect nothing up front.

FAQ

Choosing between them

What's the difference between a medical credit card and an installment plan?
A card (CareCredit, Alphaeon) is a revolving line you can reuse, with minimum payments and deferred-interest promotions. An installment plan (Cherry, Sunbit, Scratchpay, PatientFi, Affirm) is a fixed amount with a fixed schedule and an end date.
Which patient financing options use a soft credit check?
Cherry, Sunbit, Scratchpay, PatientFi and Affirm (for eligibility) use soft inquiries. CareCredit and Alphaeon prequalify with a soft check but run a hard inquiry on the full application.
Which offer true 0% APR?
Cherry (all promotional plans), Sunbit (qualified patients, some merchant promos are deferred), Scratchpay (Take 5 and waived-interest offers) and Affirm (Pay in 4 and select offers). CareCredit, Alphaeon and PatientFi's promotional plans are deferred interest.
Who lends the most?
Cherry up to $65,000 (plastic surgery), PatientFi up to $50,000, Affirm up to about $30,000, Alphaeon lines to about $25,000, Sunbit $20,000, Scratchpay $10,000. CareCredit limits are set per cardholder.
Which has the longest term?
PatientFi at 84 months, then Sunbit at 72, Cherry and Affirm at 60, CareCredit and Alphaeon equal-pay plans to 60, Scratchpay 24–36.
What should I ask before accepting any plan?
Three things: is the 0% true or deferred; is the application a soft or hard check; and what the late fee is and whether a late payment changes the rate.
